Q&A: Which art forms are most exciting to me?

Every month, I publish an answer to a reader’s question. Here’s a transcript of my 10th answer to an interesting question about which art forms I find most exciting.

Hi Lisanne, we know about your passion for books, and you clearly love to write. Is literature the most exciting art form to you? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your question. I’m definitely passionate about reading, and I’m into books for as long as I can remember. Writing always felt as my personal way to express ideas, creativity and thoughts. For the longest of time, most of the reflections, observations, and pieces of literature would only make it to my notebook. I still have notebooks from when I was sixteen.

When the platform came into my life, it enabled me to really interact with more people than only my friends and gave me the opportunity to express myself through another medium. I truly appreciate authors and writers, but I can also be very excited about cinema as well.

Images can be strong and the opportunities one has to tell a story in visual images are basically endless. Film can be a raw medium that reminds us how terrible the world is right now, but it can also help us escape from everyday life. It takes a lot to construct a movie and a script and then produce it into a final product. The whole process is exciting because of what is involved. But movies also take audiences on a sometimes intense and extreme journey. It’s fascinating how movies from the 50s can still resonate with me, even though the style might be a little bit outdated.

So I’m also very excited about film as another way to tell deep stories. Our history has been passed down through story, whether books, dance or cinema. For inspiration however, I like to immerse myself into different art forms like dance. Damien Jalet is one of my favorite choreographers.
