Books Written by
In 1993 Deepak Chopra was interviewed on The Oprah Winfrey Show about Ageless Body, Timeless Mind. Within twenty-four hours the book had sold 137,000 copies, and 400,000 by the end of the week. He was a doctor trained in New Delhi who had moved to the United States in 1970, become an endocrinologist, and in 1985 met the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. His first book, Creating Health, had come out in 1987; by the time Digital Dharma appeared in 2024 his publisher was counting ninety-five. This guide covers the books in order, which ones he wrote with scientists, how his ideas have been received, and where to start.

16 Key Deepak Chopra Books, in Order
Creating Health
His first book, written while he was still practising as an endocrinologist in the Boston area. It argues that health is a state the patient takes part in, not something a doctor hands over, and sets out the themes of the next four decades: stress, habit, attention and the body's capacity to repair itself.
Quantum Healing
The book that made his name and his vocabulary. Drawing on case histories, Ayurveda and the language of physics, it argues that the body is shaped by consciousness and that recovery can begin in the mind. The phrase “quantum healing” became his signature, and the target of most of the scientific criticism he has received since. A revised edition appeared in 2015.
Ageless Body, Timeless Mind
An argument that ageing is partly learned, and that perception, stress and routine change how fast the body wears out. In 1993 Chopra was interviewed about it on The Oprah Winfrey Show; within twenty-four hours 137,000 copies had sold, and 400,000 by the end of the week.
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
A short book, a little over a hundred pages, built on seven principles, one for each day of the week: pure potentiality, giving, karma, least effort, intention and desire, detachment, and dharma. It stayed on The New York Times best-seller list for seventy-two weeks and remains the book most people mean when they say they have read Chopra.
The Path to Love
Romantic love treated as a spiritual practice: falling in love, the disappointment that follows, and what he argues the relationship is for once the first rush has gone. It draws on Indian devotional poetry and on stories from his workshops.
How to Know God
Seven stages of how people experience God, from a protector against danger to pure being, each matched to a response in the brain. It is his most systematic attempt to explain religion in terms of consciousness rather than doctrine.
The Book of Secrets
Fifteen “secrets”, each a short chapter ending in exercises, on themes such as the mystery of life being real, the world being in you, and death making life possible. It is closer to a workbook than most of his books from the period.
Buddha
A novel of the life of Siddhartha Gautama, from his sheltered youth as a prince to his enlightenment, told as an adventure story with battles, love and temptation. It began a trilogy of novels about religious founders, followed by Jesus (2008) and Muhammad (2010).
The Third Jesus
Chopra separates three figures: the historical Jesus, the Jesus of the churches, and a third, a teacher of higher consciousness whose sayings he reads as instructions for meditation. Each chapter takes a passage from the Gospels and offers an exercise based on it.
War of the Worldviews
A book of disagreement, written with the physicist Leonard Mlodinow, who co-wrote The Grand Design with Stephen Hawking. The two take turns on the same questions — the origin of the universe, life, the brain, God — and neither gives ground. It is the clearest place to read Chopra and a scientific critic side by side.
Super Brain
Written with Rudolph E. Tanzi, a Harvard neuroscientist known for his research on Alzheimer's disease, it argues that the brain keeps changing throughout life and that habits of attention can be trained. It was the first of several books with Tanzi, followed by Super Genes (2015) and The Healing Self (2018).
You Are the Universe
Written with the physicist Menas Kafatos, it works through nine open questions in physics and cosmology, from what came before the Big Bang to why the universe seems fine-tuned, and proposes that consciousness is the basis of reality rather than its product. Most physicists reject that conclusion; the book sets out the questions in plain language.
Metahuman
An argument that ordinary waking experience is a kind of illusion built by the mind, and that people can step outside it into what he calls metahuman awareness. The second half is a month-long programme of short daily practices.
Total Meditation
Meditation taken out of the special half-hour on the cushion and into the rest of the day. The book ends with a series of short practices for awareness, breathing and attention, and was published in the first months of the pandemic.
Digital Dharma
Chopra's book about artificial intelligence, billed by its publisher as his ninety-fifth. Rather than treating AI as a threat, it argues that chatbots can be partners in self-reflection if they are asked the right questions, and includes exercises for doing so.
Awakening
Published by Harmony on 6 January 2026: a guide to personal transformation built on a series of sutras, with mental exercises, meditations and stories from his own spiritual life, plus a Wellbeing Index for measuring progress.

How Deepak Chopra Writes: Laws, Lists and Physics
He writes in numbered principles. Seven spiritual laws, one for each day of the week; fifteen secrets; seven stages of knowing God; ten steps to growing younger. Most chapters end with an exercise or a short practice, so the books are meant to be used as much as read, and many of them are short enough to finish in an evening.
From the 2010s he increasingly wrote with scientists: the neuroscientist Rudolph E. Tanzi on the brain, genes and immunity, the physicist Menas Kafatos on cosmology, and the physicist Jack Tuszynski on ageing. He also wrote with people who disagreed with him. In War of the Worldviews he and Leonard Mlodinow answer the same questions in alternating chapters.
The word that runs through the books, quantum, is also where the criticism starts. Many physicists and doctors say he borrows the language of physics for claims about consciousness and healing that physics does not support; in 1998 he was given an Ig Nobel Prize for his interpretation of quantum physics, and Richard Dawkins, Michael Shermer and Sam Harris have all argued against him in print or on stage. His readers come for the meditation, the habits and the reassurance, and the books are clearest when read that way.

How many books has Deepak Chopra written?
More than ninety. His first, Creating Health, came out in 1987, and his publisher announced Digital Dharma (2024) as his ninety-fifth. The newest is Awakening, published in January 2026. This guide gives 16 key books a full entry and lists 33 more by form.
Which Deepak Chopra book should I read first?
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success (1994). It is short, it is the book most people know him by, and it spent seventy-two weeks on The New York Times best-seller list. If you are more interested in health than spirituality, start with Quantum Healing (1989) or Ageless Body, Timeless Mind (1993).

Awakening: The Path to Freedom and Enlightenment, published by Harmony on 6 January 2026. Before it came Digital Dharma (2024), about artificial intelligence and spiritual growth.
What are Deepak Chopra's most famous books?
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success (1994), Ageless Body, Timeless Mind (1993) and Quantum Healing (1989). Ageless Body, Timeless Mind sold 137,000 copies in the twenty-four hours after he discussed it on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1993.
Do you need to read Deepak Chopra's books in order?
No. Each book stands on its own. The only books that belong together are his three novels about religious founders, Buddha (2007), Jesus (2008) and Muhammad (2010), and his three health books with Rudolph E. Tanzi, Super Brain (2012), Super Genes (2015) and The Healing Self (2018).

Yes. The best known are a trilogy about religious founders: Buddha (2007), Jesus (2008) and Muhammad (2010). Earlier he published The Return of Merlin (1995).
Is Deepak Chopra's work scientifically accepted?
Largely not. Many physicists and doctors say his use of quantum physics to explain consciousness and healing is not supported by the science, and he received an Ig Nobel Prize in 1998 for his interpretation of quantum physics. His books on meditation, stress and lifestyle overlap more with mainstream advice. For both sides in one book, read War of the Worldviews (2011), written with the physicist Leonard Mlodinow.
