The Hotpot | December 2025 | By Lisanne

The hotpot dish started over a thousand years ago, somewhere between Tang dynasty kitchens and the Mongolian steppes.
Soldiers dropped meat into boiling pots; Sichuan families added spice and peppercorns; Cantonese cooks added seafood.
Every hand that touched the pot changed the flavor of the broth.
Today, that dish is this same simmering mix of flavors. Everyone contributes what they value, waits for the boil, and eventually shares it together.
This newsletter is my version of that communal table.
Here, I’m trading the ‘polished view’ for the ‘messy middle’. I’m sharing the insights I wish I’d had when I first started.
The joy of writing this newsletter isn’t handing you a finished plate, or put them out as final answers;
I want to start a boil.
I’m throwing them in to see how they change when they hit the heat of your own thinking.
That’s what this newsletter is: a pot of shared ideas, curiosities, and insights, hoping you will get them sooner than I did.
So, consider this an open invitation to the pot. We’ll stir, we’ll taste, and we’ll see what connects. The conversation doesn’t come from me—it comes from the community we build in the steam.
The heat is on. Let’s see what we can create together.
Thank you for reading! The question of today:
What half-formed idea, nagging curiosity, or recent mistake can you think of—that you are afraid to share because it isn’t “cooked” yet?
